Department of Forestry

Department of forestry was established in 2005 at Campus II of the University of Malakand. Now it is the regular Department of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal. Sheringal is one of the most beautiful valley resorts, with dense forests of conifers and Oak with, tall mountains and pleasant climate. The valley runs into a dense forest of Kumrat, Jandrai, Thal etc. having tall and oldest trees of Abies, Cedrus, Oak, Pinus Taxus,  betula and at the Top Juniperus. The valley also comprise of important watersheds and source of River Punjkora. The valley provides habitat for range of wild life species.  The Department has prepared a comprehensive scheme of studies for academic program at BS(Hons.) level. Since the establishment of the Department more than 100 students have successfully graduated in BS(Hons.) forestry. The Department has currently enrolled 100 undergraduate students.

Objectives

  • To impart higher education at undergraduate and later on post graduate levels in the field of Forestry & Range Management, Watershed and Wildlife Management.
  • To develop closer linkages with line departments and research organizations for mutual collaboration in research/development activities of natural resource management and conservation.
  • To promote awareness among students, researchers, policy makers and community in general about natural resource conservation and management through publishing articles and organizing seminars/workshops on the subjects related to natural resource management.
  • To educate the students about the forest environmental services and its role in climate change mitigation.
  •  Finally to produce trained graduate for various Governmental and non-Governmental organizations working on forest and related issues.

    We aspire to produce high quality forester and to develop scientific infrastructure for teaching and research for the development, conservation and sustainable management of forests, Range lands, Watershed and wild life habitat.

    To educate and train the next generation of scholars, practitioners, and users of the  forest resources, to manage and conserve the forest through distinctive problem-solving and fundamental research on the nature and use of forests and related resources, and to share our discoveries and knowledge with others.

    Fsc (Pre medical and Engineering) with at least 45% marks
